H.T. Cushman Manufacturing Co Furniture
The H.T. Cushman Manufacturing Co. was an American furniture manufacturer which operated from the late 19th to the late 20th century.

Brief history and description

Henry Theodore Cushman established his first business just after the American Civil War. At the start of the 1870’s, he began a factory where he invented novelty items, such as pencil erasers, before founding the H.T. Cushman furniture company in 1889, moving to a larger factory in Vermont so as to keep up with demand.

Cushman began dabbling in furniture production by making items such as umbrella racks and music stands, but by 1892, the H.T. Cushman furniture company was making over 150 varieties of full scale furniture pieces, and employing some 30-100 people.

In the early 1900’s, the company began to produce Mission-style furniture, expanding the line until it was a high seller and a strong competitor in an already heavily saturated market.

In 1964, the company was sold to General Industries, who later sold it to Green Mountain Furniture Company, which closed business in 1980.
