Joerns Brothers Furniture
Joerns Brothers was an American-based furniture manufacturer.

History & Description

The company was established in 1889 in St. Paul, Minnesota, by three brothers, Frederick, Paul and Charles Joerns. In 1905, the company relocated to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where the three brothers ran a small, but prosperous business. Following a fire in 1927, the company relocated to Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

During the 1940s and early-1950s, the company thrived and manufactured elaborate and elegant dining room and bedroom sets. However, the business faltered in the late-1950s and, in order to keep the business afloat, the company expanded into college dormitory furniture and later entered the health care market.

In 1983, the medical industry was the company’s leading market niche and the name was changed to Joerns Healthcare.

Guide for collectors

Records indicate that Louis XV style mahogany dining sets are the most popular among collectors as these pieces typically achieve the highest prices paid at auction. Louis XV style bedroom suites are also considered to be quite valuable.

Instances of Joerns Brothers furniture sold at national auction houses are relatively uncommon. In addition, they are also rarely advertised on eBay.

Restoration is recommended, but only if there are noticeable signs of damage. Collectors should always go through professional channels as any sub-standard restoration can dramatically decrease an item’s price.
