|Seashell Collector is a website providing information to seashell collectors, as well as other conchological services.
Its motto is, “The Wonderful World of Seashells”.
The website was founded in 1999 by Roger Rault and Touitou David, both experienced seashell collectors.
Seashell Collector publishes articles on a variety of topics relating to seashell collecting.
These include general articles (for example, on conchological trips), iconographies about specific seashells, interviews with collectors and experts, summaries of seashells shows, and books reviews.
The website features a seashell forum, allowing collectors to discuss conchology in general, sea and land shells, trips, shows and photography, as well as arrange sales and trade.
Also included is a list of seashell dealers which collectors may be interested in contacting.
A major feature of Seashell Collector, this section allows collectors to self-identify from an extensive database of pictures and information.
It also links to a forum page where collectors may submit pictures of their shells for identification by others.
The website has a large, worldwide database of seashell collectors; this allows collectors to add themselves, providing contact details and information about their interests.
As of March 2011, there were currently 581 collectors listed.
Live seashells database
A large section of the website is dedicated to compiling a database of live seashells – that is, shells still inhabited by marine life.
As of March 2011, there were over 650 photographs included.
