Sports trading cards are a sub-category of trading card collectibles which feature sporting heroes, teams or related themes.

The hobby gained popularity throughout the 20th century, and continues to evolve to match and reflect changing sports and sports celebrities.

Producers of popular sports cards include Panini and Topps, among others.

Both companies consciously market themselves to collectors, producing limited edition runs, autographed cards and related memorabilia that is likely to be sought-after among collectors.

Authenticity

As the hobby has evolved, so too have measures to ensure that collectors can discern quality collectibles from fakes.
