Brief history and description
The W.S. George china company was founded by William Shaw George in 1904 in Ohio, and soon the company started to produce various semi-porcelain dinnerware items as well as toilet and hotel wares.
Although the company only operated for 60 years, W.S. George products soon became highly sought after items, and some of the many W.S. items include plates, creamers, platters, mixing bowls, and much more.
W.S. George produced various different series of plates, such as the "Gone With the Wind" plate series, the "Colonial Couple" plate series, the "America, the Beautiful" plate series, an "Endangered Species" plate series, and many more.
Guide for collectors
Authentic W.S. George china typically has the name of the shape printed on the bottom of each item, such as "Lido," "Radisson," "Elmhurst" or "Fluerette."
The "Colonial Couple" plate series is considered to be the most rare and valuable among collectors.
Restoration of a W.S. George China Company item is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. (However, restoring a W.S. George item may decrease its value).
